Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows Book 1) Review
Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
This series has it all! Witches, Vampires, Werewolves, Pixies and more. The Hollows series is set in Cincinnati during present times. In the 40’s a bioweapon attached to a mutated tomato then wiping a large amount of the human population. Supernatural beings weren’t affected by the disease and they stepped up to keep society from collapsing. It was later in the 60’s that Supernatural beings decided to come out of the closet and let the world know they exist. Thus now in the present day Supernatural beings, now known as Interlanders, live out in the open among humans.
Now enters Rachel Morgan, a sassy redheaded Earth Witch. She worked for the Interland Bureau which is the Supernatural run FBI as a bounty hunter. After hating her boss, she decides to quit and start up her own bounty hunter business along with her two partners, Jenks and Ivy.
Jenks is a pixy who swears like a sailor, married with 45 children. Being only a couple of inches tall, he helps loops security cameras, stakeout places and fights off fairy clans.
Her friend Ivy Tamwood is a Living Vampire. She is a favorite of the Master Vampire in the city thus making her Vampire Royalty. When she quits the Interland Bureau to join up with Rachel, she pisses off the agency but since they can’t touch her, they put a death threat out on Rachel.
Together they move into a church with a graveyard/garden in the backyard. It personally has my dream kitchen, a witch’s every dream. A large island with a double range where you can cook dinner and mix spells. I would love to have a kitchen described in this world. With a death threat looming over Rachel, Jenks and Ivy must keep her safe from faeries, weres, witches and vampires who are all being contracted to “accidentally” kill her. Rachel must find a way to pay off the bounty on her head.
Rachel decides she’s going to bring in Trent Kalamack, the city’s wealthy councilman. He's fair skin, blonde hair, arrogant, business man who believes he will get whatever he wants in life. Trent wants to hire Rachel or kill her if she won’t work for him. While she thinks he’s a drug dealer and wants to put him in jail. And Rachel can’t help but admit he’s attractive. Honestly the reason you want to read this series is for these two.
There’s more characters to fall in love with, but I don’t want to give away too many spoilers.
This is my absolute favorite series of all times, great world building, amazing character development throughout the series, and incredible relationships between the characters. I highly recommend this series! Let me know if you’ve read this series too!
